Twelve teams of apprentice brick/blocklayers from around Australia competed at Newcastle TAFE in the biennial Golden Trowel Award on 18-20 September 2011. This was the 10th Golden Trowel competition which encourages excellence among apprentices and recognises the skills of young people in the brick and blocklaying trade. All teams competed to a very high standard and produced well-built tasks at the end of their 2-day competition time. The win was announced at a gala Award Dinner at Noah’s on the Beach, Newcastle - guests included members of NSW Parliament, TAFE dignitaries, contractors, members of the concrete masonry industry and, of course, all competitors. The Coffs Harbour team was ecstatic with their win and very happy to take home the coveted Golden Trowel perpetual trophy as well as individual trophies and prizes for each member of the team. CMAA wishes to thank the generous sponsors of the Golden Trowel Award in 2011, TAFE NSW Newcastle Campus and the CMAA NSW members for their support in this very successful event.
