MISSION

The Concrete Masonry Association of Australia (CMAA) is a national organisation funded by the Australian Masonry Industry to extend and improve the masonry market.

In pursuit of its objectives, the Association publishes technical manuals and bulletins, maintains a web site, conducts conferences and courses and provides a technical advisory service which is available to the construction industry and other users of concrete masonry products.

BRIEF HISTORY

The Concrete Masonry Association of Australia was founded in 1967 as a co-operative non-profit organisation. In the early days the Cement and Concrete Association of Australia provided administrative and technical assistance, as well as office space.

In 1983 the CMAA's first full-time Executive Officer was appointed to handle the Association's growing workload including collaboration with Standards Australia in the development of Masonry Codes and Standards.

In 1990 the Association became a fully-independent organisation, in the control of its own destiny. The position of Executive Director, Administration Manager and staff are now fully funded by the concrete masonry industry. Close links are still maintained with the Cement and Concrete Association of Australia at both national and state levels.

STRUCTURE

The CMAA is run by a board of directors elected by member companies. The CMAA maintains a full-time national secretariat based in Sydney. Within each state a promotional committee operates to develop its own local market, with members represented from member companies.

A national Technical Committee monitors, develops and researches the myriad technical issues confronting the concrete masonry industry. The Committee also provides direction and support to Standards Australia in the development of masonry Codes and Standards.
